Art Stevens Retires!
Vice President Art Stevens has announced his retirement effective December 31, 2011. Art has been employed by the ICWUC since 1988 as an International Representative until he became the Vice President of Region 6 in 2007. He and his wife, Barbara, plan on remaining in their home in Topeka, Kansas after retiring, but you will probably find them somewhere around the country on their new Harley Davidson mortocycle enjoying life. They will be missed by all staff and members of the ICWUC. We wish them both a long, healthy, and happy retirement. Happy motoring Art and Barb!
The ICWUC Executive Board met for our semi-annual meeting the week of November 6, 2011. The Board unanimously voted to approve the appointment of International Representative Ricky Lawrence to the position of Vice President/Regional Director of Region 6 to replace retiring Vice President/Regional Director Art Stevens. Ricky was hired as a General Organizer in Region 6 in May of 2006. Ricky lives with his wife Tammy and their son Justin, in Lena, Mississippi and will run Region 6 from there. He also has a daughter, Courtney Mangum and her husband Greg, and a grandson Peyton. We welcome Ricky to the Executive Board and wish him well in his new position. We know his dedication to our members and to organizing new members will be put to good use and make the entire ICWUC proud.

UFCW Minority Coalition
A UFCW Minority Coalition Executive Board meeting was held on November 10th. and 11th. in Washington, DC. The Minority Coalition also hosted a Ball that was held on November 12th. At the Washington Capital Hotel. President Cyphers has appointed two ICWUC Local union Presidents to represent the ICWUC on that Executive Board. Pictured here is the delegation as they attended the Ball; from left to right, Julia Owens, President, Local 1020c, Don Cash, President, UFCW Minority Coalition, Ed DeLone, President, Local 458c, and President Cyphers of the ICWUC. The Ball is held annually to raise funds for the charity the Coalition supports, Faces of our Children. This charity is dedicated to the elimination of Sickle Cell anemia, a devastating disease of the blood primarily found in African-Americans. The Ball also recognizes the person of the year (this year it was Executive Vice-President Wayne Hanley) and other significant people who have been instrumental during the year. The mission of the Coalition is to develop a united voice, and promote diversity and inclusion within the labor movement. We are very proud of both Julia and Ed for taking part in the Coalition and being appointed to the Executive Board. Congratulations, Julia and Ed! You have represented both the ICWUC and your local unions very well
