Social Security Online Application

From the Secretary-Treasurer:

Did you know that Social Security has a new online retirement application? You can apply for retirement benefits from your home or office at www.socialsecurity.gov. There is no need to drive to your local Social Security office or wait for an appointment with a Social Security representative. SSA estimates that the new online retirement application can be completed in about 15 minutes.

If you are uncertain about when to retire, you can check out the online fact sheet, “When to Start Receiving Retirement Benefits”. If you are not ready to retire, you can plan for retirement using Social Security’s online Retirement Estimator. It is a great financial planning tool that will give you an immediate and personalized estimate of how much your retirement benefits would be if you stopped working at age 62, age 66, age 70 or any point in between.

USDOL FORM LM-3

Brothers and Sisters, it's not too early to make plans concerning the completion of your Local's LM-3. Every year we are notified by the UFCW and U.S. Department of Labor of locals that are delinquest in filing their LM's.

An LM-3 must be filed by each reporting union with total annual receipts of less than $200,000. The report must be signed by the President and Treasurer. Please do not fill these forms out in pencil! Believe it or not we had a local last year that did just that. The LM-3 MUST BE FILED WITHIN 90 DAYS after the end of the Union's fiscal year (June 30th for us). All reports must be filed by September 28th. Remember that all records and documentation must be kept for at least 5 years after the date the report is filed.

Next year, LM-3's and instructions will no longer automatically be mailed to filers at the end of their fiscal year. Filers can download the electronic Form LM-3 from www.olms.dol.gov. The completed form can be signed with digital signatures and submitted over the Internet or printed, signed and mailed.

Digital signatures can be obtained by contacting www.IdenTrust.com and following the steps. There is a charge so have your credit card ready.
