REGION 3
The Regional office is the nerve center for all of Region III. The main function of the Regional Director is to coordinate all organizing activities in the region so that any group of workers in any job who desire to join our union, may. Our professional staff is located in various areas of the Region in order to provide assistance to our current members and to assist workers who wish to become members of our union. Our staff includes VIce President Gerry Setley and Representatives Mary Davis and Mark Carotenuto. We currently have members in manufacturing, nursing homes, automobile dealerships, homeless shelters, public employees from municipalities and counties and office clericals, just to name a few. We can help any worker who wants help.
Gerry was hired by Cabot Corporation in 1974 as a Research and Development Technician. He became a member of Local 959C through an NLRB brokered agreement at the chartering of the local. Gerry began serving the local as Steward and continued as an elected officer for his 31 years with the local. He left the local last serving as its President for over ten years. He is currently a member of Local 570C in Pottsville,PA. Gerry was hired as a General Organizer/ Representative in June of 2005. He was elected Vice President / Regional Director at the 4th Regular Convention of the Chemical Workers Council in October 2007.
Other services provided by the Region III office is assistance to the staff in any way necessary, such as working with the staff, the local unions, and other professional staff at Council Headquarters in our Accounting, Legal, Research and Education, Health and Safety, Pension and Insurance, and Data Processing Departments. The office assists our members with grievance handling, arbitrations, problem resolution between various State and Federal agencies and contract negotiations. Our office is very active politically to insure our members views are represented at the Local, State and Federal levels. In short, whatever is necessary to assist workers to join our union and whatever is necessary to be done to protect the rights of our members is the function of the Region III officer and Regional Director.
