A New Chapter: ICWUC Center for Worker Health and Safety Education Transitions from Cincinnati to Akron

After decades of dedicated service from its Cincinnati location, the ICWUC Center for Worker Health and Safety Education will officially relocate to 1655 W. Market Street, Akron, OH 44313, July 31, 2025. This marks a new chapter in its mission to empower workers through health and safety education.

Honoring the Cincinnati Legacy

Since its founding in August 1988, the Cincinnati office at 329 Race Street has served as a national hub for hands-on training in hazardous materials handling and emergency response. It provides trainer development, OSHA Outreach (Construction and General Industry), HAZMAT disaster preparedness, and emergency response programs. Thousands of union members and safety professionals have passed through its doors, participating in programs that emphasize real-world simulations, peer learning, and community resilience.
The Center’s Cincinnati location was more than a training site—it was a community. From its medical screening partnerships with the University of Cincinnati to its role in national grant-funded programs like HWWTP and HDPTP, the Center became a trusted institution in worker education. This tradition and commitment will continue in Akron.

The Move to Akron

The decision to relocate was not made lightly. It reflects a strategic shift to better serve a broader geographic base while continuing to deliver the same high-quality programming. Internal calendars and staff communications show that Akron-based meetings and planning sessions began as early as April 2025, with staff actively coordinating logistics and training schedules to ensure a seamless transition.

The Akron reopening also aligns with the Center’s ongoing commitment to innovation and accessibility. New training sessions—alongside our core chemical emergency response, disaster preparedness, CAMEO chemical, and train-the-trainer programs—will be supported by updated, evidence-based materials, including curricula on personal protective clothing, toxicology, decontamination best practices, and infectious disease.

Looking Ahead

While the Cincinnati office will always hold a special place in the Center’s history, the move to Akron represents growth, adaptability, and renewed purpose. The Center remains committed to its core values: empowering workers, fostering safety leadership, and building resilient communities.

To all who trained, taught, or supported the Center in Cincinnati—thank you. And to those joining us in Akron—welcome.

The mission continues.
