Greg O. Chambers, Vice President/Region 3 Director
“A Proven Asset to the Union’s Purpose”
Greg O. Chambers, Vice President/Region 3 Director, retires on September 1, 2026, after dedicating more than 50 years of his life to the labor movement and to the cause of protecting the rights of working people.
Greg’s commitment to justice for workers began at an early age. As a young boy, he watched his mother endure sexual harassment in her workplace, making it difficult for her to face each day. At that time, there was no strong voice to protect workers from that kind of mistreatment. That experience stayed with Greg and shaped his lifelong desire to be a voice for innocent workers who needed protection, fairness, and dignity on the job.
When Greg entered the workforce, he carried that purpose with him. Over time, he became deeply involved in the union struggle to protect workers’ rights, serving in many important roles, including shop steward, chief steward, local union president, and representative. In each role, Greg proved his dedication to standing up for working people and ensuring that their voices were heard.
It is no accident that Greg Chambers has proven to be a true asset to the union’s purpose. During more than 26 years of service to the International Chemical Workers Union Council, he demonstrated consistent loyalty, commitment, and determination in representing workers, resolving difficult issues, pursuing fairness, and doing what was best for the members and the union.
One of Greg’s greatest career victories came while representing Local 2598C in an arbitration case involving a worker who had been unjustly terminated. Through Greg’s advocacy, the worker ultimately received $72,000 in back pay. Greg also proved himself to be an outstanding organizer. In Brunswick, Georgia, he led an organizing campaign, negotiated a first contract, and helped establish Local 650C.
While serving on staff with the International Chemical Workers Union Council, Greg Chambers was elected ICWUC Vice President in 2021. As he prepares for retirement, Greg leaves behind a legacy of service, strength, and commitment to the labor movement.
As he departs, Greg shared these words:
“I will miss everyone. I was treated like family. I am thankful for President Lance Heasley, and I feel he will keep ICWUC moving forward in a positive direction. This makes my heart glad. I’ve been married for 46 years and have a beautiful family with grandchildren to enjoy. I’m going to just exhale, travel, and go fishing. And as I have always said, don’t forget where you come from.”
Statement from President Lance Heasley
“I will always be thankful for the friendship Greg and I have developed from the start of my career, as well as for his passion for the labor movement and the members we serve. Greg’s dedication, experience, and commitment have made a lasting impact on the ICWUC and on countless working people throughout his career. I wish Greg a long, healthy, and well-deserved retirement filled with family, travel, fishing, and the opportunity to enjoy the next chapter of his life.”
