Stay Safe This Summer

Summertime means higher temperatures and the increase for heat related injury or illness. Many of us work in excessively hot environments which now is compounded by hotter ambient temperatures.

No matter if its’ work or play, a little planning can go a long way in keeping yourself safe. Drink plenty of non-alcoholic liquids; preferably water or drinks with added electrolytes. Rest; take breaks more frequently, preferably in airconditioned spaces or a least in the shade. If possible, stay out of or limit the amount of time spent in direct sunlight.

If your employer doesn’t already have a plan for working in hot environments offer to help them create one. And if they do have a plan ask to review it and make changes as needed.
